A thorough characterization of starting materials is the precondition for further research, especially for cement, which contains various phases and presents quite a complex material for fundamental scientific investigation. In the “Analytics” group of SPP 2005, the characterization of the reference cementitious materials and superplasticizer were collected based on tests conducted by many research groups involved in this cooperative program. For all data received, the mean values and the corresponding errors were calculated. The results shall be used for the ongoing research within the priority program of the German Research Foundation (DFG SPP 2005).
Working Group Analytics in SPP 2005 conducts the thorough characterization of the reference raw materials and put forward the reliable solutions to the problems in the experiments caused by the materials. In detail, WG Analytics has the following goals:
The major achievement of the Working Group “Analytics” contains the following two parts:
Regarding the first part, two papers on the detailed characterization data of CEM I 42.5R and CEM III/A 42.5N were published in Data in Brief (ISSN 2352-3409) from the aspect of chemical and mineralogical composition, physical properties and performance. In addition, one paper on the characterization of the reference superplasticizers was also published in the same journal. For the second part, the following keynote presentations were organized during the seminar & workshop of the group “Analytics”.
At the beginning of the second funding period, the Working Group again focused on the characterization of the raw materials. As in the first funding period, various participants contributed results for a joint publication. This publication is the basis for further research in the DFG SPP 2005. The paper characterises the following materials:
In the next publication, a more precise characterization of the calcined clay is planned using special tests, e.g. R3 test. For this purpose, Dr Nancy Beuntner and Matthias Maier from Universität der Bundeswehr München were guests at the group meeting on 06.05.2021 and gave a lecture entitled “Calcined clays and their challenges for analytics”.
